In the Tall, Tall Grass by Denise Fleming. Henry Holt, 1991. Bright, bold illustrations, rhyme and alliteration, bugs and snakes that naturally capture a child’s imagination ... perfection. I would have loved to have this in board-book format for my own children when they were young. Similar to one of Carle’s (the Lonely Firefly, I think), but simpler/makes more immediate sense.
